The task of tearing down our old house has proved to be visually fruitful. Anticipating future work with this, I have been documenting the progress extensively in video and digital photography. I found a moment when the demolition crew was paused to take some photos at a stage which seemed poignant. The frozen moment at which we left the house that night of the fire is somewhat visible here as though a dollhouse. The relationship of this event to my previous work exploring nostalgia, domesticity and transience is obvious however I know there must be some time before I approach this with any critical or conceptual perspective. There is time. We are now rebuilding and onto the redemptive part of this long process to get “home”. Perhaps the growth of our new home will be another future work.
