I have recently been given the opportunity to teach two printmaking courses this coming January 2011 at the University of Western Ontario in London. Teaching in this discipline is very exciting to me. My own practice has included stone lithography, screen, relief and intaglio printing at various times since my undergraduate studies at the University of Guelph. While much of my work has very much changed over time, my interests in print culture and concepts have remained relevant in my studio. I regard my photography and video work as extensions of these interests. I am looking forward to some time later this year continuing to work with monoprint and lithography.
The images below are lithographs from 2008. While working on my graduate studies at the University of Waterloo I looked at album covers in my collection as an archive and identity exercise. These images began as copy stand photographs of the used/distressed artifact. I then printed them at 24 x 24″ in a xerox quality print. I later used these prints as unstable plates. Carefully dampening the copy paper, I was able to roll up the xerox image and offset it face down to an aluminum litho plate which I then properly etched for an edition. I was most interested in playing with the degeneration of an already aging image.
